The Mayor's Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (MOAPIA) held its ninth annual "Share a Smile, Give a Toy" Toy Giveaway and Holiday Celebration on December 8, 2015 at the Old Council Chambers of One Judiciary Square.
For the past nine years, MOAPIA has collected and distributed 2450 toys to over 2150 District youth. New, unwrapped toys are donated by local community members, community based organizations, and District government employees for youth from ages three to fifteen. MOAPIA has been holding the toy drive as a way for District residents to give back to their community during the holiday season. Activities for youth this year included a special guest appearance from a beloved children’s character (a Minion from the film “Despicable Me”), balloon twisting, raffle giveaways, and cotton candy treats.
The event was made possible due to the generosity and contributions from: Mayor's Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, Pizza D’oro, Paul Bakery, Costco Wholesale, Korean American Grocers Association of Washington, DC, Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States, Rosemary Abriam, Dana Tai Soon Burgess, Michele DeSando, Walter Lee, and Martha Watanabe.
