During Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month in May, the Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs of the District of Columbia recognizes the champions that have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to serving Washington DC's Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.
The Commission invites you to nominate an individual, business or organization that has made extraordinary contributions to the AAPI community for the Mayor’s Community Service Award(s). This contribution can be expressed through a variety of ways such as promoting awareness of AAPI issues or organizing projects that strive for the advancement of the District’s AAPIs. While the organizations or individuals need not be based in DC, their work must focus on the District's AAPI community. Please note that this award may be presented to more than one awardee.
Additionally, a Volunteer Service Award may be presented, in honor of Ajay K. Ojha, a former Commissioner who passed away while volunteering overseas on a community service project for local youth. Unlike the Community Service Award, this prestigious award will only be presented if the Commission agrees that the nominee exhibits the spirit of Commissioner Ojha through exceptional volunteerism in the DC community.
The Mayor’s Community Service Award and the Volunteer Service Award (if applicable) will be presented by Mayor Muriel Bowser at the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration, hosted by the DC Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs, to be held in May.
