On May 7th at the Goethe-Institut on 812 7th St NW, Washington, DC, OAPIA will be holding a panel discussion regarding how Asian American identity is expressed through food. Panelists will include the White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford, Daikaya Partner and Executive Chef Katsuya Fukushima, KAZ Sushi Bistro Owner and chef Kaz Okochi, and Indique Heights Co-owner and chef K.N. On May 9, 2013 at the AARP Headquarters (located at 601 E St NW, Washington, DC 20052) from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm, come attend a film screening of the documentary CAN by Pearl Park, followed by an interactive forum with Charissa Cheah, PhD, Matthew Miller, PhD, Myron Dean Quon, Esq, and Derek Iwamoto, PhD regarding family dynamics and stress within the Asian and Asian American community.

On May 30, 2013 from 7-8:30 pm at the Lincoln Theatre (located 1215 U St NW, Washington, DC 20009), join Mayor Gray for an evening of DC's best performances presented by Kollaboration DC, the Mayor's Community Service Awards, networking opportunities, and more! RSVPs encouraged. Mayor Vincent C. Gray's 2013 Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration

The evening will feature the Mayor's Community Service Awards and performances by Kollaboration DC.

Every May the DC Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA) celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This year’s theme is Asian American History Revisited through an Exploration of Food. As part of the theme, OAPIA will post food profiles and youth recipes every week on its blog to showcase the diversity of Asian culture and cuisine.
 
During this month, OAPIA will host one of its largest events, the annual Mayor’s Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Celebration which attracts people across DC and greater DC area. Join Mayor Gray for an evening of performances, the Mayor's Community Service Awards, networking opportunities, and more!
