(Washington, DC) – The Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA), in collaboration with the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES), held two registration fairs to assist job-seeking DC residents with enrollment into “One City One Hire,” a hiring initiative with the goal of putting District residents back to work.

Over 40 District residents attended the registration fairs held in Chinatown at the Chinatown Service Center (CSC) on January 24, 2012, and in Columbia Heights at the Vietnamese American Community Service Center (VACSC) on February 7, 2012. OAPIA staff, CSC staff members, and VACSC staff members were on hand to assist with language interpretation for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) residents with limited English proficiency.

The registration fairs provided an opportunity for community members to meet with knowledgeable DOES staff, ask questions, learn more about "One City One Hire," and register to be matched with available employment opportunities and training programs.

“By bringing these One City One Hire registration fairs directly to the District AAPI community, we aim to provide additional employment opportunities and encourage residents to take advantage of DC government services,” said Soohyun “Julie” Koo, Director of OAPIA.
