(Washington, DC) – The Mayor’s Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs (OAPIA) hosted its “One City One Hire” (OCOH) Lunar New Year Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Business Reception at the John A. Wilson Building on January 23, 2012. Mayor Vincent C. Gray brought greetings at the reception and took the opportunity to thank the AAPI hiring partners of OCOH. More than 120 AAPI business owners, community leaders, government agency representatives, and other guests attended the event.

OCOH is an employer driven hiring initiative with the goal of putting District residents back to work. OAPIA has already secured over 30 hiring partners who have committed 100 jobs to the initiative. OAPIA engaged the leadership of AAPI chambers of commerce, business councils, business associations, and small businesses from the DC metropolitan area. OAPIA has been promoting OCOH through various outreach efforts in the community including hosting informational discussions and meetings, distributing information via newsletter and listserv, and publicizing the program at various AAPI networking events.

“I am very excited and encouraged by the support of the many AAPI employers who have committed to be our partners and we are seeing positive results from One City One Hire,” said Mayor Gray. “The AAPI community plays a valuable role in the success of One City One Hire and the future of the District.”

“One City One Hire definitely sounds like a great opportunity,” said Hsuan Ou, Co-owner of Dimension FX, a local media and visual effects company. “I’m glad I came out to today’s event.”

OAPIA Director Soohyun “Julie” Koo praised the engaged and proactive business community in attendance.

In celebration of the Lunar New Year, the event featured Asian cuisine and a networking session. Food and drinks for the reception were provided by Tony Cheng’s Restaurant and the Washington Area Liquor Retailer’s Association (WALRA).
