The Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs of the District of Columbia seeks your help. As May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the commission would like to recognize those unsung heroes who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) residents and/or merchants of the District of Columbia.
The commission invites you to nominate individuals or government employees who have made or are currently making significant contributions to the AAPI community.
This contribution can be expressed through a variety of ways:
- Promoting awareness of the District's AAPI issues;
- Providing direct services to the District's AAPIs;
- Organizing projects that strive for the advancement of AAPI residents and/or merchants in the District; or
- Displaying exceptional volunteerism (a new award has been created to honor the memory of former Commissioner Ajay K. Ojha) in the District's AAPI community
While the government employees or individuals need not live in DC, their work must focus on the District's AAPI community.
The Mayor's Community Service Award will be presented by Mayor Muriel Bowser at the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration in May.
